Job offer - HONG KONG!

We have received the following e-mail asking for a Teacher of English and Spanish. We checked the information, and it is a real job offer.

Job Details – Teacher of Spanish and English

The School

Our school – the Oxford Oriental School of Languages – is located in Kowloon, a downtown district of Hong Kong, China. We teach Chinese, English and Spanish to local Hong Kong students (children, teenagers and adults). Students usually learn for one or two hours each week. The school is small, with six small classrooms and a staff of six full-time teachers. We are open all year round. We are now looking for a teacher of Spanish and English (one teacher who can teach both languages) to fill a position that will be vacant in the autumn.

Brief Job Description

Role

To teach both Spanish and English to students of all ages (juniors 5-18, and adults) in small classes (max 6 students) and on a one-to-one private basis. Our aim is to ensure that all students learn their target language rapidly and effectively through professional and personalised teaching.

Duties

Teachers are required to: plan lessons; teach lessons which are both effective and enjoyable for students; maintain class records and write student reports; and undertake teaching-related project work.

Profile

The job requires someone who is energetic, enthusiastic and who can dedicate him/herself to helping students achieve specific language objectives. S/he will also need to be patient, tactful and respectful of different cultural perspectives. The job also requires a person who is flexible, and who is able to display both a sense of humour and a can-do attitude.

Qualification Requirements

1. Native (or genuinely fluent second language) speaker of Spanish and English
2. Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree
3. Holder of a: (a) recognized Teaching Diploma / Certificate
Or (b) recognized attendance-based ELE/EL2 certificate
Or (c) recognized attendance-based TEFL/TESOL certificate
4. At least one year’s relevant working experience (min 800 hours verifiable teaching)

Pay and Benefits

Basic Wages: not less than HKD18,040 (~USD 2, 310) per month
5% Terminal Gratuity upon successful and satisfactory completion of contract
5% non-contributory (employer paid) Mandatory Provident Fund
Additional performance and productivity bonuses may be payable.

Deadline for receipt of completed application forms:

A little bit more information:
We checked with a friend of ACPI who lived in Hong Kong (thanks KARIN!), this is what she had to add:

“… El aviso parece serio y el lugar existe. Me parece una oferta super interesante. Eso si, esa cantidad de plata se te haria muy poca en HK. Asumiendo que el colegio costearia un pasaje de roundtrip a Argentina al año, más un allowance para arrendar depto, igual ese monto es bajo para una familia (pero) estaria bien para una persona sola en HK. Igual no queda claro ya que dice “no less than”, asumo que en base a los años de experiencia etc en el rubro ese monto seria bastante mas, pero habria q averiguarlo.
