Workshop Slides by Adriana Millikovsky
Hi everyone,
Below you’ll find a few slides from the power point presentation exhibited at the workshop 9th Saturday. For the most part, as you might recall, the slides feature paintings which make the whole presentation too heavy to upload on our website. For the time being, please make do with the information provided below and for the sake of the upcoming evaluation at the end of the seminar, just keep this in mind: You can read paintings pretty much like you read any written text (a story, a poem, etc.), that is to say, you can apply the same approaches and strategies: either you start by looking at the BIG picture first so as to capture the general idea, or you pay attention to the details, OR you let your eye and mind run through the whole picture making sense of it by applying both approaches (top-down and bottom-up) simultaneously. You can then design tasks or activities around a painting very similar to the ones you set up for a reading text: skim-reading for main idea, or scanning for specific details. Finally you can hold whole classroom discussions on the message or intention of the painting as well as students’ emotional responses to it, pretty much as you do with a written text. Good luck, and don’t worry too much, the information you gathered by having attended and participated in the seminar will be more than enough for you to succeed in your final evaluation which by the way will be a practical one (no theory included).
All the best,
Adriana Millikovsky
